LETTERS: Don’t blame guns or God

I don’t understand why it is so difficult for liberals to understand that guns aren’t violent. They aren’t any more violent than a knife, an axe or a baseball bat for that matter. You can put a soft, comfortable pillow in the hands of an evil person and that then can be used to hurt someone. Wouldn’t it be foolish to blame the pillow if it was used to suffocate someone? Do we consider guns to be violent when they’re used to defend our families from danger? Guns aren’t violent, people are.

To blame God for mass shootings is like blaming Henry Ford for what some drunk does in a Ford F-150. It’s absolutely senseless.

Sen. Ted Cruz is absolutely right to make the case that a nation that has no respect for God will suffer the consequences. Many founding Fathers understood that religion and morality were indispensable supports that led to political prosperity and human happiness.

Wouldn’t this world be a better place to live if we all made an effort to follow Christ’s teachings? “Love one another, treat others the way you would want to be treated, husbands love your wives, wives respect your husbands, be generous with those in need.” How can you possibly blame a God like this for the evil in today’s world?

The fact that Ethan Allen, Thomas Paine or any other agnostic/atheist didn’t accept God for who he is doesn’t change the reality of his existence or his goodness. Sincerity will never be a substitute for truth.

God was so good that he allowed his son to be crucified on a cross so that if we accepted him as our Savior, we would have the opportunity to one day live with him in heaven forever. Doesn’t sound like a very cruel God to me.
