LETTERS: Medicaid expansion garners opposition

This is in relation to the column, “Help Texas: Expand Medicaid,” by state Rep. Lyle Larson, printed Feb. 9.

In his heart Larson is trying to save the Texas taxpayers’ money. He wants Texas government to expand Medicaid because the federal government would match many dollars. Sounds enticing. What’s the catch?

When groups (government, schools, institutions, etc.) accept federal money, they also accept federal rules. One may not agree with the rules. Once you accept federal money, strings are attached.

Do not expand Medicaid in Texas.

Frankly, the government feels they know better than you. Think about that. I want to be in control of my life and minimize government interference. What about you?

The reason Texas is successful is because people are prudent financial stewards. Independence from the federal government should continue to be our goal.

Let’s not save money to sell our soul.
