Police in Texas and RGV to turn on flashing police lights today to honor fallen DPS trooper

Law enforcement agencies from across the Rio Grande Valley and throughout the state will hold a moment of silence today in remembrance of fallen DPS Trooper Chad Walker.

Gov. Greg Abbott has asked that law enforcement turn on their red and blue flashing lights for one minute today at 1 p.m.

“Trooper Walker’s horrific murder is a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day to keep our communities safe. We will always support law enforcement here in Texas, and we are indebted to the sacrifices that they make to serve and protect their fellow Texans, Abbott said.

The Brownsville and Edinburg police department have stated they will be participating in today’s event.

Walker was shot and killed during a traffic stop near Mexia over the weekend.
