UTRGV REPORT
The UTRGV men’s basketball team picked up its second straight victory Monday, defeating the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints 77-51 at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in Edinburg.
The Fighting Saints were coached by former legacy institution UTPA head coach Ryan Marks (2009-13).
Junior C.J. Jackson led the Vaqueros with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Will Johnston scored 14 points and senior Justin Johnson added 11 points and five rebounds.
UTRGV’s Adante’ Holiman, who was announced as the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday, netted eight points and two assists.
Aitor Anabitarte led the Saints with 12 points and three assists. Casmir Ochiaka scored 10 points and eight rebounds, with Darius Wright adding 10 points.
The Vaqueros (2-1, 0-0) return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday, taking on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
