Letter: Slavery, Rangers’ actions were not taught in school

A letter printed Feb. 20 states that conservatives reject the teachings of slavery and the lynching of Mexican-Americans by Texas Rangers. That’s interesting, because I am old enough to have gone to public schools in the 1950s and 1960s and in elementary I don’t remember my teachers of that period covering slavery or Texas Ranger atrocities. Later in the 1960s in High School, we only covered a limited amount on the subject of slavery.

One must remember that Texas was a blue state in the 1950s and 1960s and the Department of Education had not been created. So we were basically being taught reading, writing, math and history and not today’s revisionist curriculum.

It’s sad but what is missing in today’s education is critical thinking skills for students instead of teaching indoctrination.

If a person wants to learn about Texas Ranger atrocities of that era in CameronCounty, perhaps reading “Tejano Legacy” by Armando C. Alonzo will help. As for the Holocaust that he mentions, it’s socialist Democrats who have denied it. For example, one of the members of a mainstream media talk show denied the reason for the Holocaust. This anchor person later allegedly had to apologize.

Truth is, we are now living in the darkest period of our recent history. The writer mentions book burning by conservatives. Yet, conservatives don’t burn books; they only want to remove soft-porn literature from primary and secondary public schools.

Perhaps socialist Democrats are comfortable with having this literature to the chagrin of parents.

The writer implied how history is being rewritten. The fact is that today’s history books are being rewritten by leftist socialists and commonsense words are deleted and revised to fit their Marxist ideology.

The writer states Viva Joe Biden and that unemployment is the lowest in 50 years. Really, maybe the writer has a point. Viva Joe Biden delivers, by calling parents terrorists, crime out of control in blue cities, shortage of baby formula, having open borders yet giving billions to Ukraine to secure its borders from Russia, record high gas prices, fentanyl deaths and now an 800% surge of illegal Aliens sneaking in through Canada and the list goes on.

So, as George Carlin would say, where do the politicians come from? They certainly don’t fall from the sky. They come from our families, our homes, our schools, our churches, our universities and of course our businesses. How do they get elected? Of course, by our citizens.

He basically told it like it is. Fourteen years later, his comedic words are so true. He said that if you have a selfish ignorant citizen, you’re going to get selfish ignorant leaders. He said that probably it is not the politicians who are to blame for bad policy but the citizens who elected them.

If one thinks about today’s economic policies, well, there’s really no polite way to put it. I remember that there used to be something called a conservative Democrat. For example, John F. Kennedy lowered taxes and created prosperity for businesses and enterprises but Democrats like President Kennedy are virtually extinct today.

We have civil discourse across the country because of the socialist Democrats defunding the police.

It’s not that the United States has stopped producing people of integrity and honor, it’s that the United States has been reshaped by high technology and social change in the last 60 years. For example, we no longer have Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs in every small town where neighbors met one another at least weekly to socialize.

So, it’s interesting that today the commonsense public no longer has faith in major institutions like the mainstream media and courts.
