Letters: Flores’ Spanish garners support

I just saw a commercial for Mayra Flores where she narrates in Spanish spoken in Mexico, not in Tex-Mex like we speak in 95% of our RGV! I remember some years back when a lady from Spain was saying that their citizens were far better then our Raza because we spoke Tex-Mex Spanish and not correct Español like they did! Boo hoo!

My adult children never spoke Spanish growing up until my daughter learned it because of her job at a bank that was bought by a big company from Spain. My son also learned it when working at the Pharr golf course from the workers there. My 95-year-young mom doesn’t speak English but she understands it so my nieces n nephews learned Español from her too.

I hope Ms. Flores wins not only to close the borders but maybe one day she and other Chicano elected officials push forward to have our Raza on TV and movies because nowadays it’s only Whites, Blacks and Orientals!

Ms. Flores, please pass a national holiday to honor Dr. Hector P. Garcia, who started the American GI forum after a Mexican American soldier was not allowed to be buried in a White cemetery. Dale gas, Mayra, because I’m pretty sure you will win because our Raza is leaning toward the GOP side because we aren’t “breakfast tacos” like that Biden lady remarked!

Our failed

experiment

After more than two centuries of existence and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lives sacrificed, rivers of tears shed and innumerable struggles fought and won, an ex-president of the United States and his more than 74 million followers say the American Experiment is a failure, that democracy is dead — how can we disagree?

After living, breathing and feeling the American Dream for their entire lives, to feel it is not worth keeping, not worth fighting for, not worth upholding their oaths or their allegiance for, then they are right.

Something is wrong. We failed somewhere along the line of succession and progression. Our heritage and our legacy simply an illusion. A delusion that became our fantasy we wanted to believe. A land where people genuinely wanted to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

We wrongly assumed that people were meant to be free, and wanted to be free from the fist and grasp of autocracy and monocracy. We mistakenly assumed that people felt empowered by voting and by having their voices heard. We faultily believed that people preferred to be told the truth, rather than be deceived, misled and betrayed. An ex-president and his followers tell us otherwise.

The American experiment: A failure, when “We the People” believe our democracy to be a fairytale fantasy, and nothing more.

This is one fairytale without a happy ending.

Investigate

Nord blasts

The Monitor posted an article by the Associated Press stating that the Russians were pushing a baseless theory blaming the U.S. for the damage to the gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea. Does anyone think that after Joe Biden stated in February that if Russia invades Ukraine “there will no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring a end to it,” Biden might be responsible?

Perhaps we need an investigation of Biden and the Pentagon.
