Letters: Republicans draw criticism

John Gibbs, who recently won the Michigan Republican primary after being endorsed by former President Donald Trump, argued that the country would be in a better state if women could not vote or be in a position to govern. This MAGA Republican wants to strip all American women of their full citizenship. Things like this will be common if the Christian nationalists get control.

In the first extensive commentary on our Constitution, Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story explained that the First Amendment means Christianity only, not any other belief. This is a lie. What the founders actually said was in the Treaty of Tripoli, which states “… America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,” ratified by John Adams and unanimously approved by Congress in 1794.

“(N)o religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” This immediately follows a clause requiring all federal and state office holders to take an oath or affirmation to support the Constitution. All of the Republicans I have ever met disregard this part of the Constitution, especially on the abortion test.

Vote Republican if you want to take a religious test to prove you are an American. Iran is an example of what could happen if the Christian nationalists gain control. When in control of the government, Christians are a lot worse than Muslims. MAGA Republicans have already proven they have no respect for life, they killed police on Jan. 6, 2021. They want to eliminate the FBI and IRS. Ted Cruz sent a tweet supporting that.

Anyone who says the election was stolen does not support democracy or the Constitution. They are MAGA Republicans. Voter guides — Christian Coalition of America.

Over and over the letters to the editor explode with the same rhetoric. Joe is ruining the nation, or from the other side, Donny ruined the nation. On Sept. 5 Joel Ramirez again criticizes Joe Biden for causing all the world problems he can think of, and for resisting the intrusion on a family’s right to privacy by individual states. What a mess that has already created. He then again proceeds to criticize a president who was actually elected to the office and has not as yet tried to overthrow it, and the government. He then says he was proud when he used to sing America the Beautiful, as if to say the tree-hugger liberals, not all-for-profit conservatives, were responsible for pollution and extreme weather.

On the other side of the column, Mr. Al Garcia says we have been assaulted by “they.” Who the heck are “they?” I assume he means that we are still suffering from the non-COVID viruses of hate, discontent, bigotry and division that Donny Trump eloquently spread. I would agree, but then Donny also did not give our students an incorrect view of morality and capitalism by forgiving perfectly legal loans for no good reason.

So fellow letter writers, let’s find something new to write about. Or perish the thought, lets ask for some answers or make some suggestions on how to solve the issues that are negatively affecting America nearly to the point of dissolution.

First one, back to basics. How do we replace gerrymandering with a geographically equal system not designed by any party to exclude or include a particular type of voter?
