Letters: Media choices affect behavior

This is far from a scientific article. That being said, I am a firm believer in common sense. Common sense tells me that we have too many cop shows on television, and if television is a social influencer then are teens being exposed to excessive gun violence on a weekly basis.

We have more than a dozen police-type shows, some super redundant like the FBI and NCIS shows; I mean, how many variants of these shows do we really need? Not a fan of any

of these, and pardon the pun, it’s just overkill with the gunplay.

What happened to family shows with family values? I find myself watching the oldies channels for reruns of Leave it to Beaver, Beverly Hillbillies, the Andy Griffith Show and The Waltons. Why can’t the networks reboot some of these classics?

But I have to be careful what I wish for.

The new Leave it to Beaver might have the boys Wally and Beaver dealing with gender issues and the Clampett family gets rich on solar energy. Andy and Barney are a same-sex couple who live in Mayberry, and the Walton family, well you can use your own imagination on that one.

Also, why is no one making any noise about violent video games that teens play for hours on end using firearms of all sorts? It’s been said that the shooter at Sandy Hook was addicted to role-playing games and the Columbine shooters played shooting games. Common sense tells me these games are a training ground for unstable teens.

Dr. Phil McGraw has some ideas about this as well: “Dr. Phil also points out that violent video games don’t teach kids moral consequences.” “Additionally, there’s an increased frequency of violent responses from children who play these kinds of video games.” Lastly, “they have less ability to control their anger and they externalize things in these violent ways. It’s absolutely not good,” Dr. Phil says.

Common sense tells me where there is smoke, there is a fire. You be the judge.

Mission

Hispanics

aren’t seen

I loved reading Ned Sheats’ letter on the lack of Hispanic reporters or announcers on Fox news, so why see the network (Aug. 31). On ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN it’s the same problem because mostly Whites and Blacks work on those networks, even when reporting from the open borders and from Uvalde, where mainly Mexican Americans reside and Spanish is spoken.

“Aviator Joe” has many Blacks in top positions in his administration because he thinks they helped him get elected, but our Raza are Democrats (not me, I’m independent) and we are 25% of the national population, so our votes count more then the Blacks who constitute only 15%.

Just look at the movies or commercials and even in cartoons; we are ignored by the networks.

So my Raza, let’s be united so there can be a Lopez, Rodriguez, Castillo or even a Rosales in the Casa Blanca in 2024 so the future president can invite Jill Biden for hot tacos with coffee so maybe she will respect our Spanish ancestry (Spain is the motherland)!

Viva nuestra Raza.
