Letters: Mayra’s claims

In her campaign literature, Congresswoman Mayra Flores tells us that she wants for America what most Americans want, but she wants to do it with less government. I say, great! Give it a try. And let’s also make sure that fewer versions of Trump’s favorite phrase, “Duh, we’ll see what happens” are ever uttered again. Fair enough?

Mayra claims liberals in Washington attacked American energy and that’s why gas prices are so high. Mayra might know this is not true, but since lying helped Trump win the election in 2016, perhaps she thinks this strategy might help her win, too.

Mayra says Democrats have long felt entitled to the Latino vote with little to show in return. This is also not true. It’s like saying that Republicans have long felt entitled to the NRA vote, the KKK vote and the white nationalist vote with little to show in return. But wait! Could this be the reason the discontents stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?

Fulfilling promises in politics is not an easy task. If Mayra thinks she can do it, fine, I’m with her. However, judging from the enormous amounts of money she’s spending on her campaign, it doesn’t look like it’s coming from ordinary folks with humble beginnings. More like it’s coming from pro-Trump and pro-gun dark money donors. This can make the most trusting skeptical. Is Mayra for a government governed by dark money? Or is she for a government of the people, by the people and for the people?

Mayra should keep in mind what happened to the honorable Congresswoman, Liz Cheney. Liz dutifully defended our Constitution and staunchly stood up against a corrupt Donald Trump. She did not yield to Trump’s false claim that the election was stolen. She refused to go along with the “big lie,” and for this the GOP made her life more difficult. She was quickly removed from her leadership position and she lost her congressional seat because of it. All this because she refused to let the GOP tarnish our cherished centuries-old democracy.

Liz Cheney is the epitome of what true Republicans used to be. She’s got more cojones than all the Republican sycophants combined. If the GOP ever wants to nominate a strong, wise woman for president, Liz is the one. They should open up their eyes and look no further.

Back to Mayra. Granted, President Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are not Jesus Christ perfect. But with a combined 75 years of service to America, respect for their accumulated wisdom and knowledge is merited, not being accused by a rookie politician that they are wrong.

When Mayra tells us that Biden and Pelosi are wrong, the image of a cute little girl in an elementary classroom comes to mind. With one hand on her hip and the other pointing a finger at professor Albert Einstein, she says, “Sir, your E=mc2 formula and your theory of relativity are wrong. This, of course, makes me smile.

Gonzalez

thanked

Thank you, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, for cosponsoring the Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act.

Providing care for an individual living with dementia involves many unique and challenging elements. As a caregiver of a person who lived with Alzheimer’s/dementia, I understand how complicated it is to navigate this ever-changing and costly healthcare maze.

In 2007, our dad’s forgetfulness was noted. Dementia treatment was started in 2016. In 2020, with quarantine, his symptoms worsened and when his physician changed his medications, he continued to decline further, which prompted our family to seek out a natural supplement, which we paid out of pocket. Throughout this time, it was difficult to find any type of resources to help our dad.

By April 2021, our dad’s health deteriorated. With help, his wishes of staying at home were fulfilled, and he died peacefully on April 30, 2021. If resources, caregiver support, respite and provider services were readily available, they would have been of great help to our family.

While it’s too late for my dad, the Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act (Senate Bill 1125/House Resolution 2517) aims to create a more effective path for the 6 million Americans who are navigating this devastating disease. If passed, this bill will recommend that the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation implement a dementia care management model that has proven to reduce care use and costs and will improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families.

Please join me and the Alzheimer’s Association in thanking Rep. Gonzalez for co-sponsoring the Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act. Thank you for supporting legislation that aims to improve the quality of care provided to individuals impacted by Alzheimer’s, as well as their caregivers.

Liberals

attacked

Mr. Al Garcia’s letter of Aug. 19 looks like he got his characters mixed up in his attempt to join the power-desperate haters who enjoy damaging the reputation of those who do not kowtow to their extreme liberal agendas of the nanny state.

This is not to mention the ongoing lies and hoaxes, forcefully financed by swamp turncoat profiteers, dark enemy money, mute big tech/big media collusion; also by tax-confiscated funding from the real blood and sweat of America’s hardworking people.

Mr. Garcia unabashedly dismisses the chaos and present autocratic tyranny that did not begin on an escalator but in a Delaware basement campaign of real deceit that threatens to terminate our 246 years of freedom, democracy and justice.

That basement of deceit brought more tyranny, division, persecution and hate than any other assault on freedom and democracy in American history.

Good American citizens are never easily duped. The stakes are too high when our freedom and democracy are threatened by misinformation and greedy global domination aspirants who exaggerate climate change by daily “unnamed sources’” inaccuracies.

Mission

America,

or Russia?

Watching the election returns from Wyoming and seeing Liz Cheney’s opponent’s response to Liz’s phone call of congratulations makes me wonder if this is America or Russia!

The Republican Party has degenerated to Biblical times in Moses’ day of leadership. They seem to be wandering through the wilderness of Trumpism and its shenanigans of lying and deceit. Trump seems to be the golden calf of modern times in his actions and to the false coloring of his skin.

America became the greatest country in the world in a lot of different ways over the many years we have been able to survive as a democracy. Now we are on the cusp of losing it all because of one man and his money. This guy according to his niece has been able all his life to get his way in life, in court, in attracting women, in making money even if it cost small businesses their livelihood, and the list goes on and on! In Trump’s view, he is above the law and untouchable. Just like the Mafia of olden days.

Where is the opposition with verbal skills to combat these treacherous demigods? Every time one arises the media and the Republican Party employ their hateful lies to distort their opponent’s views and their character driving them off the scene and media.
