Letters: Parents should feed children

Responding to a letter by Ms. Bolin in the Aug. 3 11 edition, I agree that parents should feed their own children!

It appears Ms. Bolin never heard of the National Student Lunch Plan of 1946, Special Milk Program of 1955, School Breakfast Program of 1966, and Child and Adult Care Food Program of 1998. Lunch, milk, breakfast and after-school meals, ,all funded by the American taxpayers! These programs are for families in the lower income brackets and in South Texas, not a single child in public school pays a penny for their food.

Having worked in this field for many years, I too wish parents with the means would feed their children! This would save the taxpayers billions of dollars yearly!

Questions

addressed

This is in response to a letter from Carlos Cantu on Aug. 12, who asks “who created the homeless, opioid and education crises?” Democrats did, by demanding too much in assistance, and the Republicans, by not recognizing or being concerned about social crises even when they smacked his party in the face.

There is no single answer to why we have high inflation, high gas prices, open borders, low return on stocks and all the other worldwide problems Mr. Cantu foists on his re-named progressives. For gas, the reason is greed by our oil cartels. Why is it falling now? They got caught! Opioid crisis? Profiteering from the pharmaceutical cartels. Open borders? They don’t exist except in Republican’s paranoia. Ask a trucker hauling from Mexico if our borders are “open.” High inflation? We had 2.5% in January 2020. No baby formula? The health issue that caused this didn’t happen till October 2021. Revisionist history? Better check who is sponsoring calling slavery “involuntary relocation” in Texas school books. Clue: It’s not those so-called progressives. Return on investment? Hasn’t been a decent one since Clinton handed an excellent economy to Bush. Been downhill, except for a boost from Obama in 2019, ever since.

Finally, I resist bringing religion into this, but when much of the wailing and gnashing of teeth seems to be coming from those identified as conservatives and Christians, it’s hard not to.

From my point of view, one of the solutions to our problems is simple. Ask both of them to start following the 10 Commandments again instead of the me-me-me Trump-DeSantis manifesto for American destruction.

Mission

Governors

criticized

It’s time for the Latino people to rise up and shout, enough is enough! The whole history of Anglo Americans’ dealings with Latin Americans is full of treachery, theft and abuse.

Now we have two governors in Texas and Arizona openly committing crimes against humanity and making a mockery of Christian principles.

Running for office making points in scapegoating fashion and spouting invader rhetoric. In reality these are desperate men, women and children of color. Invaders without so much as a slingshot! Blinded by prejudice and hate, these governors cannot detect the author of the hate they espouse. Trampling upon the Christian principles of Matthew 25:34-46.

May the people of God see the light and reject these monsters.
