I would like to congratulate Mayra Flores for her victory, and also the public education school systems in South Texas. It is very apparent that Mayra was a great student and she had some great teachers. She commands the English language so well, no one would think she began her life in a Spanish-only-speaking world!

She was impressive on Fox News following her election.

I started with the bright, let me address the dark! I want to dispel and put to rest the Biden and media generated fallacy that if you’re not on board with their ideology, you are a White supremacist!

White supremacists are not running around our country! How do I know this? Very simple! Riots that have destroyed many lives and much property would have ended very differently! Rioters’ blood would have flowed like water into the gutters! Baseball bat wielding, gun toting White men and women supremacists would have taken care of the rioters! Jan. 6, 2021, would have been a bloodbath! Those picketing the justices’ homes would be in the emergency rooms if not local morgues!

This president and the media assume that you will believe anything you are told and based on the letters I have seen published in this Opinion section, many do believe everything they are told!

White supremacists do exist, but not in the numbers our president expects you to believe! Want higher gas prices? Vote blue in November! You can believe that!

I wonder, Mr. Joel Ramirez, what would you call what happened Jan. 6, 2021, a peaceful protest (Letters, June 15)?

That’s the problem with the right-wing so-called patriots. They can’t comprehend what nearly destroyed our democracy. Who would ever think that idiots would attack the Capitol?

Yes, Mr. Ramirez, the attack at the Capitol could happen in America. And what make things worse is the stupidity of the Big Lie and how ignorant those idiots were and still are.

We Americans should condemn their actions, not defend them.

Oil policy

defended

I found Robert Bonds’ letter, “Oil policy condemned” (April 19), interesting. He might want to do a little research, however. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, “Both the Obama and Trump administrations concluded that the Keystone XL pipeline would not have lowered gasoline prices. NRDC and its partners also found the majority of the oil would have been sent overseas.”

And, though its representative did not dispute Jen Psaki’s statement that more than 9,000 oil/gas leases on federal lands have been granted and have not been explored, the American Petroleum Institute states: “The lease already requires companies to either produce oil and/or gas on a lease or return the lease to the government generally in the first 10 years.” The API makes several other statements regarding why a lease might not be explored in a timely manner, sometimes due to government regulations, but in the research I have done I did not find that they disputed the 9,000 leases claimed by Ms. Psaki.

There may be other sources that do dispute that claim, I just did not find them. So Mr. Bonds, before you castigate the Biden administration, you might want to do a little research yourself.
