Letters: Take a stand

Let us take a stand this time!

I am all for gun rights. I believe in the Second Amendment, but as all rights there must be a limit. We have reached that limit. Twenty-one lives in Uvalde are too many.

As a lifetime member of the NRA, I believe we must decide. How many lives are we willing to sacrifice upon the alter of an absolute right to own a gun?

I say not one more!

Let us be reasonable about this. I do not want to take anyone’s gun(s) away or give up mine. We must take reasonable steps to limit the availability of access to guns.

No one under the age of 21 (if it were me, 25 years old) should be able to owe a gun. Being young is difficult now more than ever. If you cannot drink or smoke, then how can we grant you a right to own a gun?

We cannot continue to look away. Reading and seeing the faces of these children was just too much for me. We all have children, loved ones and everyone else around us. It’s time we really start to care for one another.

To buy an assault rifle in Texas. This is what you need:

(1) An ID.

(2) A filled-out form.

(3) Cash or credit to pay.

And you can walk out with all of the rifles and ammo you want.

Lets thank our state government and our governor for these laws. You don’t even need a permit to own a gun in Texas. And you think our governor cares about Texas citizens? Seriously!

President

defended

I find it interesting that The Monitor would provide such a large space to Sherwood D. Uhrmacher in the June 10 paper to lambaste the Democrats and President Biden. It was more of the same rhetoric that we get from other writers. I am not going to ask for so much space.

I just want to ask these political analysts why is it, if all of the woes we are experiencing are the result of Biden, that every country in the world is experiencing the same problems. The whole world is seeing high inflation. The whole world is seeing gas prices going through the roof. The whole world is experiencing supply chain problems. Is all of that Biden’s fault, or might you look at the impact of COVID-19?

Also, many places in the world are experiencing immigration problems, whether they be from Ukraine, Africa, Syria, Lebanon or other Middle Eastern countries.

Finally, I hope I can get it through people’s thick heads that the Keystone pipeline was never going to bring oil to the U.S. It was being built to transport it from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico to be shipped overseas.
