Honoring the fallen

We here at JohnKnoxVillage in Weslaco joined the nation in remembering our fallen on Memorial Day. A wreath was also placed at the base of our flagpole that also flies the POW/MIA flag 24/7 in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Following wreath ceremony, we joined our nation in Taps Across America at exactly 3 p.m. in playing taps, remembering and honoring all those who gave their lives in defending our freedom and liberties.

Why are not more businesses and people flying the POW/MIA flag? I mostly see it flown at government installations.

Let’s address

gun violence

America, it is time once a for all to address this issue. How many massacres and senseless mass murders do we have to see on the news? How many more people have to die before the Republicans act on it?

And no, I’m not asking to get rid of the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms. I’m talking about banning and making it illegal for a regular citizen to own an assault weapon.

Just wondering: How much was Ted Cruz paid to make an appearance at the NRA convention in Houston? We deserve to know how much each Congress member gets in campaign contributions, Republican and Democrat alike, for dragging their feet on this issue.

Reaction

is political

The extreme progressives have been coming out of the woodwork to do what they do best — politicize the tragedy of the innocent martyrs of the horrendous UvaldeRobbElementary school massacre. All this is done in an effort to influence political op-eds for themselves for coming elections. It seems crass, very cold and premeditated.

Some pro-abortion activists showed up to disgustingly feign outrage over 2nd Amendment rights. These are the same people who unabashedly stand for abortion with personal attacks against people who stand against it.

Some progressives quickly reacted to equate the Uvalde massacre to George Floyd’s death.

Anyone with a good soul and humane conscience will always denounce those thugs who caused Floyd’s unnecessary and cruel death as evil. Those executioners deservedly got their convictions, many victims are not so lucky.

The only difference between both tragedies is that highly defended Mr. Floyd is known to have had a prior troubled record with law enforcement.

Those Uvalde innocent little children and their two martyred teachers did not.

We also remember Vanessa Guillen, a U.S. Army soldier who, while honorably serving her country, was also innocently butchered to death, and to this day we have not heard of anybody elevating her as Mr. Floyd has been. In fact, we’ve never heard anything about justice for her since her death, with regard to any closure or justice for her and her family.

We should remind ourselves that all lives should always be valued equally as acknowledgement of God’s creation. The sad fact is that this is not always the case.

Mission

Can’t train

‘courage’

Technical gear won’t do it; high-powered guns won’t do it; a pack of like-equipped people won’t do it; what does it take to acquire guts?

Targets don’t shoot back! Practically anyone can arm themselves and “play guns” at a shooting range — no courage required!

Ask those who may fit the bill described above to perform an honest soul-search of how they would act when faced with a dangerous situation that requires them to deploy the skills they have practiced, but with a target that can shoot back. Would your inner courage express itself to save your fellow human being?

We know how “trained” law enforcement personnel reacted to my question in a recent Texas mass school massacre. Can you be better than that?

Editorial

addressed

Re: Monitor “Another View: Discipline — U.S. needs to get serious about taxes and discipline” (May 23).

The editorial was written by Bloomberg Opinion, a very left-wing news outlet. Wow, you know things are getting bad in the U.S. when Bloomberg criticizes the Biden administration.

Finally, Biden gets called out by a hyper-leftist organization for his disastrous fiscal policies. He got called out for “proposing big increase in public spending” and raising taxes on large corporations. And “Yet by no plausible yardstick is the Biden administration calling for deliberate fiscal restraint.”

Bloomberg rightly asserts that “the president appears to see extracting a ‘fair share’ from wealthy corporations as an end in itself — not a way to finance necessary spending, curb the deficit, improve the economic outlook or fight inflation.” It’s all misdirection. The Biden administration is using proposed “tax hikes” on large corporations as a misdirection to the fact that he has no real plan to lower inflation.

We should take a moment and pray for Biden. Psalm 109:8 — “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”
