Same stunt for Abbott

Just like the governor has sent migrants to WashingtonD.C., the produce merchants of the Valley should pack up a semi-load of their rotten vegetables and send it to Austin.

Thousands of dollars of produce have been spoiled and that is money out of Texans’ pockets, all for a publicity stunt. It shows that Greg Abbott does not really care for the welfare of his constituents, but wants headlines so he can run for president.

And don’t give me any B.S. about protecting us from drugs. If that were the case, why did he stop the inspections?

It seems the federal inspectors do their jobs adequately and when drugs do get through, it is really our fault. If American’s did not buy the illegal drugs, the cartels would have no incentive to smuggle them across the border. We are the problem.

Although I did not agree with Ruben Navarrette when he said Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has no business speaking for Mexicans living in the U.S., I still agree with him most of the time. Also I see that he is the only Mexican American who is a regular commentator; is he the only one?

Kudos to him; he is the only one always speaking up for “La Raza,” as I see him do in this commentary, “Mistakes by police officers can be lethal” in your Jan. 6 edition.

I am writing in response to Timothy Davison’s guest column that was published on Jan. 26 (“Taking issue with columnist”).

First of all, Mr. Davison, I deeply appreciate your 40 years of hard work and service as a police officer and I give you nothing but high praise for the efforts you made to maintain law and order in the streets throughout your career in your profession.

May I say that your column was well-written and spot on, but as for the George Floyd case that took place in a “Stalinist-style” manner like you mentioned, I totally disagree with that approach.

As many of us remember, disgraced Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck on the street over whether or not the suspect tried to use a counterfeit bill at a food store on May 25, 2020. As many of us also remember, Mr. Floyd, who did not resist the same malicious officer’s arrest, was pleading for his life when that horrible incident took place.

As a result of his terrible actions, Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder by the jury in a trial that was conducted in a fair manner from the opening arguments to the final verdict.

When the disgraced police officer himself received his right to due process through that trial, all I want to ask is, where was George Floyd’s due process when he needed it on May 25, 2020?

Again, Mr. Davison, I give you many thanks for proudly serving as a police officer, but with all due respect, the only thing we can do is step back and let the judicial system do its part in bringing the lawbreakers to justice in a timely manner.
