Letters: We’ve lost our way

Now in the state of Georgia, we learn that people who oversee the elections in that state are being harassed so much in their daily lives that they feel so endangered for their lives and their families, they are opting out of their offices and duties. Donald Trump is totally to blame for this by lying and name calling while he continues to enjoy an opulent lifestyle supporting Vladimir Putin of Russia!

What has happened to America and its values? I submit this all started during the Nixon years of influence. He is the one who courted the southern strategy of race baiting and dirty tricks. This phenomenon has grown in our political system to the point where money or lack of it is the most important thing, even over ideas for the good of our democracy.

God help us because we have totally lost our way.

Who’s Trump’s

running mate?

All you “Trumpers” out there who still believe “The Donald” won re-election haven’t addressed who his vice president would be. It surely wouldn’t be Mike Pence, since he was nearly hanged during the Capitol riot when he refused to do what he wasn’t legally allowed to do.

Don’t you hate it when laws get in your way?

Trucker wants

parking space

An open letter to Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez from a concerned citizen of the city of Pharr:

Whereas, I am aware of the need for city ordinances to maintain a semblance of order within the city limits of Pharr, as a professional truck driver I must also speak out about the lack of any available spaces where we can safely park our trucks.

Residents of the city are allowed to park their 4-wheel vehicles along any street curb within the city with no questions asked or time limits, yet truck drivers are not given the same rights. We may be truck drivers, but we are still residents of Pharr and taxpayers and we should have the same rights that are taken for granted by drivers of 4-wheel vehicles.

I know I speak for every professional truck driver who is a resident of the city of Pharr and we would like to have an amicable solution to the current situation. We can live in a symbiotic relationship if we can sit down and address our issues professionally and remain courteous to one another.

I am not asking for any special favors or considerations, but I am asking that until this issue is addressed and a viable solution is reached, the current parking restrictions for 18-wheelers be suspended for a maximum of 180 days to allow a resolution to be formulated and implemented.

Elected representatives at every level of government (local, county and state) are too often victims of myopic points of view and make their decisions based on the only vehicle they have ever operated (a 4-wheel car or truck). They ignore the needs of truck drivers because they have never faced the dilemma faced by truck drivers every time we need to park our trucks.

For too long, we have suffered in silence by being forced to park our trucks at truck stops that are always full and often up to 30 minutes away from our homes. Allow me to pose a sincere question to every elected representative who happens to read this: How would you like to have to commute up to 30 minutes (via Uber or Lyft) and pay up to $20 just to get to your work vehicle?

Why must law-abiding, tax-paying citizens continue to be treated like second-class citizens just because of our chosen profession?
