Forum slated for McAllen ISD board candidates

Futuro RGV will host a forum next week designed to give candidates running for the McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees a chance to share their vision and plans for leading the district.

The forum, slated for 7 p.m. April 15, will be streamed live on Futuro RGV’s Facebook page.

There are three seats up for election this year, two of which are contested and one of which isn’t.

Incumbent Debbie Crane Aliseda will attempt to defend her Place 3 seat from challenger Lucia Regalado, while newcomers Sofia M. Pena and Gilda M. Garcia will run for an undefended Place 6.

Place 7 incumbent Sam Saldivar Jr. will run unopposed for his seat.

All five candidates are billed as participants in next week’s forum.

Individuals with Facebook accounts can watch the livestream of the forum on their phone or tablet, while individuals without Facebook accounts are encouraged to watch the stream on a desktop or laptop at, or

The last day to register to vote in the May election was April 1. Early voting runs from April 19 to April 27, and the last day to apply for a mail ballot is April 20.

Election Day is May 1.
