Los Fresnos sets $63 million bond election

In a recent unanimous vote, the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved a $63 million bond election to be held on May 1.

“Our ability to operate fiscally responsibly over the years has now landed us in a position to be able to add several needed facilities and make renovations to others all without raise the tax rate,” Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said. “We know that these additions and renovations will help us continue to deliver on a mission of delivering a quality educational experience for all students.”

Major components of the bond program include:

>> Construction of a new middle school and new multi-purpose facility

>> Renovations to convert Los Cuates Middle School to a career and technical eucation center

>> Building an all-weather track at Liberty Memorial Middle School

>> Upgrades and renovations at Los Frenos High School to mirror facilities at Los Fresnos United

>> Completion of the Los Fresnos United master plan including an NJROTC building, lecture hall, and completion of athletic fields

>> West Campus Central Plant equipment replacement and air quality improvements

Early voting will be April 19-27 at four locations. Election Day polling places include Las Yescas Elementary, 23413 FM 803, Los Fresnos Community Building, 204 N. Brazil St., Los Fresnos, and Villareal Elementary, 7700 E. Lakeside Blvd., Olmito.
