Cold weather forces school closures, remote learning

Due to the cold weather the following school districts will close or operate with remote learning on Monday:

Brownsville ISD schools will be closed on Monday due to the weather and instruction will be scheduled for distance learning. All employees will not report to work and instruction will be done remotely.

Harlingen CISD campuses and facilities will be closed Monday.

San Benito CISD campuses will be closed Monday and all classes will be conducted entirely online/remote. SBCISD says there will be no meal delivery via bus routes or curbside pick-up.

Point Isabel ISD will operate at 100% remote instruction on Monday. The district will have a delayed start of school on Tuesday. Elementary students will report to campus at 10 a.m. Buses will start their routes at 9:30 a.m. Secondary students will report to campus at 10:30 a.m. Bus routes will begin at 10 a.m.

Rio Hondo ISD will operate at 100% remote instruction. There will be no in-person classes scheduled.

Santa Rosa ISD campuses will be closed on Monday. Classes resume on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with bus routes starting at 9 a.m. Students can take classes online on Tuesday, but must log on remotely to avoid an absence. All extracurricular activities, athletics and ACE programs have been cancelled until Wednesday.

Santa Maria ISD will close all campuses on Monday and only offer instructions online. The district will have a delayed on Tuesday with remote and in person classes beginning at 10:30 a.m. Teachers and staff are to report to campuses at 10 a.m.

La Feria ISD will be closed on Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday.

Raymondville ISD will not hold classes on Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday.

Lyford CISD will be closed on Monday and all on-site extracurricular student events have been cancelled. Classes will resume on Tuesday on a delayed bases. Campuses will open for drop-off at 7:30 a.m., but classes will not begin until 10 a.m. Breakfast will be served to students. Bus routes will run on a two hour delayed schedule.

McAllen ISD will continue at 100% remote learning Tuesday. Meal distributions have been canceled for the day. Most of the staff will continue to work from home.

PSJA ISD canceled classes Monday due to power outages reported throughout the area, but did not indicate plans for Tuesday.

Edinburg CISD extended remote learning to 100% without students in schools through Tuesday. The Curbside Meal Program will be closed Tuesday and is expected to resume operations Wednesday.

Hidalgo ISD will offer remote online instruction for students Tuesday. Remote instruction for students will begin at the usual time. Teachers will be contacting students Tuesday if students are unable to log on to their classes because of the power outages or lack of internet. If parents have any questions or concerns, please contact your campus or teacher.

Valley View ISD is canceling all remote and in-person instruction Tuesday. All campuses and central administration offices and buildings will be closed and will reopen Wednesday. Meal distribution has also been canceled Tuesday.

Mission CISD will continue remote lessons Tuesday. The district said it will use asynchronous lessons, so students can work at their own pace.

Sharyland ISD implemented remote learning for all students and staff Monday as everyone was required to log-in for instruction. Classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday.

La Joya ISD students will remain learning 100% remotely for Tuesday. Curbside meals will be cancelled for Tuesday.

San Perlita ISD will close all operations Tuesday. Classes will resume Wednesday at 10 a.m. Transportation routes will run two hours behind schedule.

Mercedes ISD classes will be canceled Tuesday. Classes will resume Wednesday.

Weslaco ISD will remain closed Tuesday. They will resume on Wednesday at the regularly scheduled time.

Progreso ISD will be closed Tuesday. There will not be virtual or in-person classes. The regular schedule will resume Wednesday

Edcouch-Elsa ISD will remain closed Tuesday. The district expects to resume normal operations Wednesday, including distribution of meals.

Donna ISD will be closed Tuesday with no virtual or in-person classes. Meal distributions will also be closed. The district plans to resume its regular schedule Wednesday.

Rio Grande City CISD operated at 100% remote learning Monday as campuses closed and district employees worked from home. Plans for Tuesday were unclear.

Roma ISD operated at 100% remote instruction Monday. No one should visit a campus for class or extracurricular activities. Plans for Tuesday were also unclear.

IDEA Schools in the Rio Grande Valley will all hold classes virtually Tuesday. Additional updates will be shared to families through texts or on campuses’ social media pages.

UTRGV campus and off-campus locations will be closed and all university operations will be conducted remotely on Monday. Only essentials employees should show up for work. UT Health RGV clinics will delay opening until noon Monday.

UT Health RGV COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites will be closed all day Monday and will not reopen until noon Tuesday. If you have an appointment with UT Health RGV that is affected by these operational changes, you will be contacted to reschedule.

Texas State Technical College in Harlingen will be closed on Monday. There will be no in-person classes. Online classes and remote operations will continue as normal.

Texas Southmost College will operate at 100% remote instruction. Employees will work remotely. The TSC campus will be closed. Depending on the weather, the college plans to reopen on Tuesday.

South Texas College all campuses and administrative offices will be closed on Monday.

CITY AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATIONS

The City of Harlingen will delay opening City Offices until 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 15. All non-emergency/non-essential employees are asked to report to work at 11 a. m.

Cameron County Beaches The following county beaches and parks will be closed on Monday. They will resume to normal business hours on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.

Brownsville Public Utilities Board will be closed on Monday. The offices will reopen after the danger of the storm passes.

Cameron County International Bridges Veterans International Bridge at Los Tomates and the Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios will begin operations at 10 a.m. on Monday. Bridge traffic will resume its normal hours on Tuesday. The Gateway International Bridge will continue to operate its regularly scheduled hours and will remain open 24 hours.

City of McAllen will have a delayed opening on Monday with all offices opening at 1 p.m.  Services affected include McAllen City Hall and all in-person payments for utilities; McAllen Public Library; the McAllen Development Center and all in-person tax payments; and McAllen Municipal Court.

Hidalgo County Tax Office all eight offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Normal tax office operations will resume on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

City of Brownsville administrative offices will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day. Emergency police, fire and rescue services may be reached by calling 911.
