Child Nutrition Program proudly serves San Benito students

By SBCISD STAFF

The San Benito Schools’ Child Nutrition Program (CNP) employees, in partnership with the Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE)foodservice management company, proudly prepare meals provided to our students via curbside pickup and school bus route delivery for students learning remotely (virtual) and in their classrooms for those students receiving faceto- face (on-site) instruction.

The district’s daily distribution of meals average 2,050 meals via bus route delivery, 1,207 meals for curbside pickup, and 1,648 for classroom delivery.

Weekly, CNP employees work diligently to serve over 27,000 breakfasts, 31,000 lunches, and 3,500 suppers. “In the past 20 years that I have worked in this field, I have learned what an important role child nutrition is to a child’s every-day life. It has been proven that a child is more responsive, alert, attentive, and energized while having regular meals,” said Child Nutrition Program Director Araceli Soto “Unfortunately, a child with no food in their tummy is prone to more illnesses, frequent visits to the doctor, malnourishment, and inattentiveness. It is our goal to provide healthy meals to as many of our community’s children,” Soto added.

San Benito Schools provides the following:

• Curbside meals are available for all children under 18 years of age. Proof of the child’s age must be provided (e.g., report card, identification card, birth certificate) and picked up at any of our participating locations from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

• Bus route meals are distributed once a week on Mondays and provided with 7 meals for breakfast and dinner, consecutively.

• Face-to-face breakfast and lunch meals are provided to students in the iron-site classroom. CNP personnel follow strict safety measures to ensure meals prepared are safe; menus are created to offer a variety of meals while following strict guidelines and regulations; and meals provided in foil containers come with general reheating instructions.

“Our CNP employees are greatly dedicated to our students. Serving them healthy meals is something they take pride in doing,” continued Soto.
