Major job fair now set for online on April 29

HARLINGEN — It’s a case of bringing the jobs to the potential workers.

The Harlingen Economic Development Corp. is partnering with Workforce Solutions Cameron to stage a major virtual job fair on April 29.

Originally conceived as an in-person event, due to COVID19 concerns the Harlingen Hires Job Fair will be held online from 9 a.m. until noon.

“We are hoping to have at least 30 employers,” said Selene Guerrero, HEDC marketing manager. “In recent virtual events Workforce Solutions has held, they have had about 400 job seekers attend and we are hoping for that same kind of success,” Guerrero added.

The virtual jobs event will consist of both larger companies and smaller area businesses.

Workforce Solutions Cameron is currently recruiting Harlingen and Cameron County-based employers interested in participating. They can contact Rey Tejada at rey. [email protected] or call 956-368-5200 ext. 432.

There is no fee for employers or job seekers to participate.

“The pandemic has increased unemployment rates throughout the county and this event is an excellent opportunity to virtually place job seekers before employers,” said Raudel Garza, the Harlingen EDC chief executive officer.

“Individuals are seeking employment and we have a strong and skilled workforce ready to fill those positions,” he added. “The Harlingen Hires Job Fair will be the perfect event to help place qualified people in good jobs.”
