Mission police officers on paid leave after public intoxication, disorderly conduct arrests

We will continue to investigate any and all allegations of employee misconduct, and I will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency to the citizens we serve.

Two Mission police officers have been placed on paid leave after being arrested in separate incidents, one for disorderly conduct at South Padre Island and the other for public intoxication in Alamo, the department said in a news release Saturday.

The Alamo and Island police departments informed Mission police of both arrests.

Island police said they arrested Mission officer Arturo Casanova Jr. for disorderly conduct Saturday. He has since been placed on administrative leave with pay, the Mission Police Department said in the release.

Officer Adan Beltran was also arrested Saturday after being found inside a stolen vehicle. Mission authorities, however, said he was arrested for public intoxication. Beltran is also on paid administrative leave as a result.

Both Casanova and Beltran’s employment statuses are pending the result of internal investigations.

“I am committed to preserving the public’s confidence and trust in the Mission Police Department,” Mission police Chief Cesar Torres said in the release, which noted an effort to be transparent about the arrests. “We will continue to investigate any and all allegations of employee misconduct, and I will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency to the citizens we serve.”
