Progreso man charged with attempted murder over Friday stabbing

Alfred Anthony Duran

Progreso police have charged a 35-year-old man with attempted murder for an early morning stabbing on Friday on 100 E. Palm Street.

A probable cause affidavit said the victim told responding officers that while he was inside his residence he noticed a bright light shining through a window from outside.

When the man went outside to check, police said Alfred Anthony Duran, a Progreso resident, attacked him with a fix bladed knife, stabbing him twice, according to the affidavit, which said the man suffered a deep laceration to the back of his right arm and elbow, and a deep laceration to the left side of his abdomen near his belly button.

The man identified Duran by a nickname, police said.

Authorities took the man to Knapp Medical Center for treatment. While at the hospital, the man “further revealed the attacker while attacking him with the knife kept telling him he was going to kill him,” according to the affidavit.

The alleged attack happened at approximately 2:30 a.m.

On Saturday morning, at around the same time, the same officer who responded to the stabbing was called to the same street in reference to a burglary of a habitation in progress.

The homeowner told police that an unknown person was still inside his residence.

Police entered the home, found Duran and arrested him.

He remains held in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
