U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz on Thursday announced that she has been appointed to vice chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues.

Also known as the Women’s Caucus, the organization is a bipartisan Congressional Member Organization made up of 153 women, or 29% of the overall membership of the House of Representatives, according to a news release.

“The Women’s Congressional Police Institute states the caucus has worked to improve the lives of women and families, fought to open doors for women and girls in school and work, and championed fair credit, tougher child support enforcement, equal pay, and retirement income,” the release stated.

De La Cruz said in a statement that women’s rights are bipartisan.

“That is why I am honored to serve as vice chair of the bipartisan Congressional Women’s Caucus,” De La Cruz said. “The caucus is at the forefront of generation-defining legislation, whether it’s the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 which prohibited discrimination based on pregnancy status, or the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, which provides job protection for people who must take leave to care for family or themselves due to a medical issue.

“Our work continues today in an effort to make the world fair for the next generation of women. We have a lot of work to do, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves.”
