Deadline to pay property taxes without being delinquent fast approaching

Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector Tony Yzaguirre Jr. is reminding taxpayers that all 2022 taxes are due by Jan. 31, and after that, they become delinquent.

Yzaguirre said 66,279 final statements will be mailed out for personal property and real estate accounts totaling $110,240, 267.87 which have not been paid.

Approximately 79.03% of property taxes have already been collected.

“The public should pay their taxes or take advantage of various payment plan options before Feb. 1, 2023, to avoid additional penalties, interest, tax lawsuits, court costs, and tax foreclosure,” Yzaguirre said in a news release.

Beginning Feb. 1, 2023, all tax accounts that have not been paid in full or don’t have a special quarterly payment code will accrue a 7% fee for penalties and interest.

If a taxpayer didn’t receive their consolidated 2022 tax statement, they can view it online at www.cameroncountytax.org or should contact the Tax Office immediately at (956) 544-0800.

“It is very important to pay all property taxes because our office will continue with aggressive collection programs this year,” Yzaguirre said.

Taxes can be paid over the internet, by mail or in person at one of the nine county taxes located throughout Cameron County.
