3 shot at New Year’s party in Escobares

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning New Year’s Day shooting in Escobares at a gathering that left multiple people with injuries.

In a Facebook post, the agency said deputies responded to a residence on Pena Street at about 3:10 a.m. for the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said witnesses told investigators that several vehicles arrived at the gathering where a man exited the passenger seat of a gray pick-up truck with a “rifle style firearm.”

“The suspect discharged his firearm several times, injuring three victims, then drove off,” the post stated.

The victims were taken to the Starr County Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
