Missouri man acquitted in 2019 Edinburg murder case

Joseph Woodrow Wilson

A Missouri man who faced life in prison was found not guilty of murder last week regarding the shooting and killing of a 67-year-old Edinburg man.

Joseph Woodrow Wilson, 29, was acquitted of his murder charge involving the death of Glenn Sohl after a panel of jurors found Wilson not guilty Thursday.

State District Judge Joe Ramirez signed the order of release the following day.

Wilson, of St. Peters, Missouri, was represented by defense attorney Oscar Rene Flores who replaced the initially court appointed attorney, Teodulo Lopez.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Sohl was found dead inside his apartment located in the 1300 block of North Closner Boulevard on Feb. 11, 2019.

A female witness told police she was at the apartment when Wilson and Sohl walked in and began to argue about her presence there, the document stated.

She added that she went downstairs when she heard gunshots

Wilson was in the apartment when responding officers arrived and found him wearing a holstered handgun of which Wilson said he used to shoot Sohl.

The affidavit states that Wilson again “implicated himself in the shooting” during questioning.

Wilson had been jailed at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center since Feb. 13, 2019, on a $1 million bond.
