If you like cold, rainy weather then you are going to be delighted because cold temperatures are on tap for the Rio Grande Valley for the rest of the week leading into Monday.

The high temperatures Thursday through Sunday will be the 50s to low 60s across the Valley with the overnight lows in the 40s and 50s.

The rain chances will remain consistent throughout the week and into the weekend with a 70% chance of rain Thursday and Friday, a 90% chance of showers on Saturday and a 60% chance of showers on Sunday.

There’s a 60% chance of showers on Monday in Brownsville, a 50% chance of shower in Harlingen and a 30% chance of showers in McAllen.

While the rainy and cold conditions may not be ideal for shopping or putting up outside holiday decorations, it will be great weather to enjoy a hot cup of cocoa, a hot bowl of chili or caldo or whatever drinks or food that warms your body.

According to weather forecasters, the cooler temperatures are the result of zonal mid-level flow that that is pushing cold air through the area.

“The bottom line is that much of the long term will be beset by rather cool/cold, cloudy and rainy weather. Colder than average temperatures on Friday will turn colder still on Saturday, with highs in the 50s, though some of those may occur in the early morning before the colder air arrives,” the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reports in a text discussion.

“Daytime temps will remain steady or slowly decrease Saturday into the 40s. Breezy north winds may produce wind chill values in the 30s and 40s Saturday afternoon. Low temps Saturday night and Sunday night will be in the 40s, but weaker winds will lessen the wind chill impact,” the discussion states.
