Six die due to COVID-19 while 386 more cases reported this week

Another six people died due to COVID-19 throughout Hidalgo and Cameron counties as health officials also reported another 386 new cases this week.

Five Hidalgo County residents died due to COVID-related complications, two of whom were not vaccinated. Their deaths raise the county’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 4,032, according to news releases issued this week.

The deceased county residents included two McAllen men over 70 years old, a McAllen woman over 70, a Pharr woman over 70, and an Edinburg man in his 50s.

Hidalgo County also reported 272 new cases this week including 50 confirmed cases and 222 probable cases.

The county has so far reported 235,533 total cases including 147,920 confirmed cases, 84,454 probable cases, and 3,159 suspected cases.

There were 33 people hospitalized with COVID-19 at the beginning of the week. The 33 patients included 29 adults and four pediatric patients. Nine of the adult patients were in intensive care units.

By the end of the week, the county reported 23 patients in hospitals with COVID-19. All were adults and nine of them were in intensive care units.

Another Cameron County resident, who was not fully vaccinated, died due to COVID-19, according to a news release.

The deceased individual was a Lozano man in his 70s.

His death raises the county’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 2,310

Cameron County health officials also reported 114 new cases this week. Those new cases include 43 confirmed cases and 71 probable cases.
