A 44-year-old Edinburg motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after veering off the roadway in McCook and hitting a fence.

In a news release, the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at around 4:53 p.m. on FM 490 east of FM 681 in McCook.

The agency said David Gonzalez Franco was riding a Harley Davidson while traveling eastbound on FM 490 when he failed to negotiate the speed approaching a curve and veered off the roadway, hitting a fence.

He died at the scene.

DPS is continuing to investigate the crash.
