Seven more in RGV die due to COVID-19

Another seven residents throughout the Rio Grande Valley died due to COVID-19 related complications, county officials reported this week, while 670 people tested positive.

Hidalgo County reported six COVID-related deaths this week. This raised the total number COVID deaths in the county to 4,022. Of the six deceased individuals, only one was unvaccinated.

In Cameron County, health officials reported one COVID-related death this week which brought the total number of COVID fatalities to 2,307. The person was fully vaccinated.

Hidalgo County also reported 594 new cases this week, including 371 confirmed cases and 223 probable cases.

There were also 11 new cases among school staff and 22 new cases among students this week.

Hidalgo County now has a total of 235,146 recorded cases since the start of the pandemic, which include 147,814 confirmed cases, 84,173 probable cases and 3,159 suspected cases.

Cameron County health officials reported 76 new cases this week. Those cases include 35 confirmed cases and 41 probable cases.

As for COVID-19 hospitalizations, there were 41 COVID hospitalizations throughout Hidalgo County at the beginning of the week. There were 35 adults and six pediatric patients. Of those 35 adults, six of them were in intensive care units.

By the end of the week, there were 36 COVID hospitalizations, which included 32 adult patients and four pediatric patients. Of the 36 adults, six were in the ICU.
