CBP officers seize over $1 million of cocaine at Hidalgo, Anzalduas ports

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized over $1 million worth of cocaine in separate smuggling incidents at the Hidalgo and Anzalduas international bridges.

On Sunday, CBP officers stationed at the Anzalduas International Bridge stopped a Ford pickup truck and referred it to a secondary inspection. There, officers found 20 packages of cocaine hidden within the vehicle, CBP said in a news release Friday.

The packages weighed about 45 pounds.

Four days later, on Thursday, CBP officers stationed at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge found 15 packages of cocaine hidden inside a red Chevrolet SUV.

When the SUV arrived at the bridge from Mexico, it was referred to a secondary inspection. After searching the vehicle, officers found about 36 pounds of cocaine hidden in packages within the vehicle, CBP said.

In total, officers estimate they seized about $1,097,900 worth of cocaine.

The drugs and vehicles were seized and remain under investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
