Brownsville police seeking public’s help in hit-and-run accident

The Brownsville Police Department is seeking the public’s help regarding a hit-and-run accident that happened late Wednesday night near the Whataburger restaurant on Central Boulevard.

The driver of a white van spotted an African American man lying face down in the middle of the street and called 9-1-1 at about 11:30 p.m., said Sgt. Billy Killebrew, spokesman for Brownsville PD.

“Nobody saw the accident. Nobody saw anything, but they know he was hit because they found a broken blinker lens or something from the vehicle,” Killebrew said.

The homeless man suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital where he remained in hospitalized in stable condition Thursday.

Although police reviewed video surveillance from cameras at Whataburger, the cameras were unable to capture anything.

“The way they were facing, it didn’t catch anything,“ Killebrew said.

Police urge anyone with information on the accident to call Brownsville Crimestoppers at (956) 546-8477.
