Donna man shot after McAllen bar altercation dies, more charged

A 22-year-old man who was shot following an altercation at a McAllen bar has died.

Police identified the man as Ryan Michael Serna, of Donna.

The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Beaumont Street. The altercation happened nearby at the No Manches Wuey bar on Sunday morning just before 2 a.m. in the 200 block of 17th Street.

Police responded after Serna’s girlfriend called police to say he had been shot. Authorities said he was shot in his upper body.

So far police have arrested a total of seven people and are searching for two more.

As of now, the most serious charge faced by the suspects is attempted murder, but since Serna died Thursday upgraded charges are likely.

McAllen police have charged Viviana Gomez, 22, Bryan Vasquez, 23, Humberto Ojeda, 22, Naila Reyes, 28 and Avan Ruben Ramirez, 17, with attempted murder.

All of those suspects, except for Reyes, are also charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

Police have additionally arrested Jennifer Lopez, 22, and charged her with hindering apprehension and have charged Hugo Ivan Ojeda, 20, with failure to report a felony.

News releases from the past week indicate that police are still looking for Joel Gonzalez, 19, and Alejandro Gomez, 18, who investigators also believe were involved in the incident.

If anyone has any information regarding Gonzalez’s whereabouts or about the crime, police urge the public to call McAllen Crime Stoppers at (956) 687-8477 or submit an anonymous tip through the smartphone app “P3 Tips.”
