Brownsville police arrest man on allegations of sexual abuse

Juan Sandoval

The Brownsville Police Department Special Victims Unit arrested a man on Wednesday on accusations of sexually abusing a child for about three years after he crossed the B&M International Bridge from Mexico, according to a press release.

Juan Sandoval, whose residency is yet to be determined, was arrested on a charge of Continuous Sexual Abuse of Young Child, authorities said.

The release states that Sandoval was crossing into the U.S. from Mexico when he was stopped for the warrant and was taken into custody and transported to the Brownsville City Jail.

According to the release, the investigation revealed the incident occurred between 2017 and 2020 when the victim was under the age of 14. Authorities said the child was sexually abused over the course of three years.

The Special Victims Unit took over the case after an outcry was made to the Brownsville PD on Aug. 12 of this year, the release said.

Sandoval was arraigned the same day he was taken into custody.

His bond is set at $500,000, according to the release.
