Cameron County confirms second case of monkeypox

Cameron County health officials on Wednesday confirmed a second case of monkeypox in the county.

The case is travel related and not related to the first case reported in August, according to officials, Cameron County Public Health stated in a media release.

The person is currently under home isolation and is being monitored by public health officials.

Privacy laws prohibit the department from disclosing personal information or further details.

As part of the monkeypox response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting the epidemiological investigation to identify others who may have been exposed. This includes testing individuals who show signs and symptoms, providing prophylaxis as needed and monitoring close contacts.

Cameron County Public Health will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they are received.
