SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Want some green?

Art lovers will find plenty of it Friday at the opening reception for “Shades of Green”, an exhibit opening at the Art Business Incubator.

“It is a group exhibit by our current artist residents,” said Deanna Powell, program director for ABI at 2500 Padre Blvd., Suite 1.

“It is going to be where the art and the food and the fashion will all be green,” Powell said. “Anybody who shows up wearing any kind of green at all will receive a little freebie. And it’s an event totally free to the public.”

The reception from 6 to 8 p.m. will present the works of six resident artists in a variety of mediums.

“We have a lot of different artists that are super diverse from one another this year,” Powell said. “We’ll have temporary paintings, some silversmithing where you can buy some jewelry. We’ll have some leather art which is not common at all.”

Paper art will also be part of the presentation along with a broad range of paintings.

But it’s all about the green which Powell said symbolizes “a lot of very positive things.”

“It definitely symbolizes unity, and we think that’s a very powerful aspect for the Island,” she said. “People typically think of blue when they come here because we’re close to the ocean, but actually your eye receptors can register more shades of green than any other color.”

The exhibit will be on display until Sept. 15. ABI is open Sunday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
