Hidalgo County’s elections administrator is retiring after 14 years on the job.

Yvonne Ramón announced her retirement Monday morning.

“It is time,” she said in a news release. “I have known that God led me to this challenging task of conducting elections for Hidalgo County. I have also known that He would let me know when it was time to retire, and He has.

“It is now time for me to enjoy life as a retiree.”

Ramón was first appointed to the position in 2008.

A news release said she has been a member of the Texas Association of Elections Administrators for the last 13 years and served as president of the association in 2019.

She also previously served as secretary, treasurer and vice president of the organization.

As president, she oversaw membership of the organization consisting of more than 350 election officials and staff from Texas’ 254 counties.

Ramón is also a national certified elections registration administrator and state registered election official.

She also served as a member of the Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee, and has participated in various security boards, task forces, training committees and as an active member on the Legislative Committee, according to the release.

“I look back and reflect on all my experiences as the Election Administrator, and I know that I persevered because of the support I received from my incredibly knowledgeable, hardworking and dedicated elections staff,” Ramón said. “We have administered fair and unbiased elections with the highest level of integrity. I also want to thank our Commissioner’s Court and all of the Hidalgo County departments that support Elections and support this great County of Hidalgo.”

She will retire on Sept. 9 and plans to enjoy time with her family, “especially her five grandchildren.”
