Edcouch woman killed in Weslaco crash on FM 1015

A 68-year-old woman died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash near Farm to Market Road 1015 in Weslaco, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

DPS said in the release that the incident occurred around 12:36 p.m. when a green Chrysler Town & Country turned left onto FM 1015, and a blue Chevrolet Silverado traveling south at a “high rate of speed” crashed into the Chrysler.

The passenger of the Chrysler, identified only as a male, was airlifted and transported to DHR in Edinburg while the driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the same hospital through ground EMS.

The driver of the Chrysler, Sofia Hernandez Perez, 68, of Edcouch, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation by DPS.
