HARLINGEN — Want some free food, music and family fun?

Come to this year’s “National Night Out” Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lon C. Hill Destination Park at 1517 Fair Park Blvd.

Harlingen Police Officer Orlando Gonzales described the event as a community police awareness event free to the public.

“We have vendors, which are businesses throughout the city,” Gonzales said. “They come and pop a tent, and they bring out their information. And they’re there to support us on the event. It’s a free event. There’s no charge.”

The event will have lots of food, D.J. music, a live band, and a raffle, plus a backpack giveaway.

The National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and has been held since 1984.

“We’re there to promote crime awareness, watching out for each other, neighborhood watch, that kind of thing,” Gonzales said.
