Mission man dies after trying to stop vehicle from leaving

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred Saturday night after a Mission man tried to prevent the vehicle from leaving, according to a news release.

Alejandro Marquez, 48, died at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance after being transported due to injuries he sustained at the scene, the release said.

According to the document, the fatal crash occurred on Bryan Road, just south of 7 Mile Line in north Mission, at about 7:24 p.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed Marquez was trying to stop a red 2021 GMC Sierra from leaving a residence.

The vehicle was occupied by one male driver and four other occupants at the time of the incident, according to the release.

The document says Marquez threw himself onto the GMC as it was leaving the driveway and the truck ran over his left foot. As the Mission man tried to stand up, he lost his balance and fell, causing him to sustain a head injury.

The driver stopped to render aid, the release said.

DPS Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash.
