The city of McAllen will be hosting a delegation of 11 Republican members of Congress for a roundtable discussion on Title 42 this week.

McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos, the city commissioners, city administration, and McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez will be joined by the nearly dozen Republican members of Congress for the discussion.

The congressional delegation will be visiting the Rio Grande Valley as part of a border tour and are meant to get input from city leaders about what the impact would be on McAllen and the rest of the Rio Grande Valley if Title 42 were to be lifted, according to a news release issued by the city.

Title 42 is a health policy invoked because of the COVID-19 pandemic that allows the U.S. to immediately expel migrants who would otherwise be allowed to seek asylum.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously announced it would lift the policy, but a federal court delayed it.

The McAllen roundtable will be held Wednesday evening at the McAllen Convention Center and will include the following 11 members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

>> U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, Missouri

>> U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, Iowa

>> U.S. Rep. Mike Carey, Ohio

>> U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, Wisconsin
