SAN BENITO — The Hog Waddle Concert returns May 14 to the San Benito Fairgrounds after a two-year absence due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Country music star Kevin Fowler will headline the event, with performances by Los Texmaniacs featuring Augie Meyers, Whiskey D. and Buck‘N Crazy.

Along with a sanctioned BBQ competition, Hog Waddle features family-friendly activities like children’s carnival rides, a petting zoo and Battle of the Alamo reenactments staged by the Texas Heritage and Independence Celebration Association.

Gates open at 4 p.m. The San Benito Fairgrounds is located at 551 Cesar Gonzalez Parkway, off FM 510.

Tickets are $10 at the gate but can also be purchased at the San Benito Public Library, 101 W. Rose St., ahead of the event.

According to a press release, Hog Waddle got its name from an incident in 1914, when one of San Benito’s pioneers marched more than 2,000 hogs up the city’s main street during a parade. After a celebratory shot was fired, the hogs scattered throughout the town and took three days to round up.
