Little remains known about the Cameron County inmate who died after being found unresponsive while in county custody Wednesday.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release earlier this week that Lidia Grover, 58, was pronounced dead at 7:27 a.m. at a local hospital.

That morning, Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza said on Twitter that the inmate was found unresponsive at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito and that EMS were en route to transport, further noting that an investigation was ongoing.

Grover was transported by Brownsville EMS from the detention center to Valley Regional Center in Brownsville, where she was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said in the release that the Texas Rangers are investigating Grover’s death and that the sheriff’s criminal investigation division was assisting.

Local media reports from KRGV and KURV indicate an autopsy has been ordered in the case.
