COVID-19 hospitalizations throughout the Rio Grande Valley slightly dipped this week only to rise again by Friday’s end.

There were 46 people in the hospital due to COVID-19 throughout the four counties of the Rio Grande Valley on Monday.

That number went down to 45 the next day and then dropped to 42 on Wednesday, which was the day with the lowest number of people hospitalized due to COVID since early June 2020.

The next day, though, hospitalizations began to climb with a total of 43 patients reported on Thursday and 44 reported Friday.

The 44 patients on Friday included 33 general adult COVID-19 patients, eight adults in intensive care units, and three pediatric patients.

Just in Hidalgo County, COVID-19 hospitalizations remained steady, though they decreased overall.

The county reported 36 patients were hospitalized due to COVID-19, but by Friday the number of patients dropped to 28.

Throughout the week, the county also reported four COVID-related deaths among residents, which raised the county’s total number of COVID deaths to 3,902. None of the individuals who died this week were vaccinated.

There were also 407 new cases this week in Hidalgo County for a total of 199,618 recorded cases.

Cameron County, meanwhile, reported just one resident, who was not fully vaccinated, died due to COVID-related complications.

They have now recorded a total number of 2,231 COVID-related deaths.

Starr County reported a total of 44 confirmed cases and 11 probable cases this week, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

According to that same data, Willacy County reported 39 confirmed cases and nine probable cases this week.
