167 new COVID cases, one death reported in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County reported 167 new cases with 44 people hospitalized and one additional COVID-19 related death as of Tuesday.

A Pharr man in his 70s died due to the virus. According to a county news release, he was not vaccinated.

His death raised the virus toll to 3,893.

Of the 44 people hospitalized with the virus, eight are pediatric patients and 12 are in intensive care units as of Tuesday morning. A majority of cases stem from the Alamo, Pharr and San Juan areas.

The 167 new cases raised the overall tally since the start of the pandemic to 198,816.

According to the release the county also reported two new cases among schools’ staff and four among students.
