Hidalgo County reports eight deaths, 462 COVID-19 cases

EDINBURG — Hidalgo County reported eight deaths related to COVID-19 and 462 new cases of the virus Monday.

Those cases bring the total number for the county to 107,911, the deaths bring the total number of fatalities to 3,101.

Those eight people ranged in age from their 40s to above 70, three of them women and five men. They lived in Alamo, Donna, Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Pharr and undisclosed locations.

Hidalgo County hospitals continued to treat 424 COVID-19 patients Monday, 26 of them pediatric patients. Intensive care units treated 138 of the adult patients and seven of the pediatric patients.

About 40% of the new cases were below the age of 20. The county reported three new staff COVID-19 cases in local schools and 56 cases among students.
