Pharr police investigate fatal ATV crash

The Pharr Police Department is investigating an ATV crash that resulted in the death of a Pharr woman.

According to a news release, police were dispatched to a canal bank located just north of 600 E. Las Milpas Road Sunday at 8:37 p.m. in reference to a collision involving an all all-terrain vehicle and two riders.

Upon arrival, police learned that a 22-year-old man was driving the ATV with a 22-year-old woman seated behind him. They were traveling eastbound along the bank of the canal when the driver lost control of the ATV.

The passengers fell into the canal bank, which is estimated to be between 15 and 20-feet deep.

The driver suffered minor injuries, however the woman died as a result of her injuries at the scene.

“The deceased female is from Pharr,” Pharr Deputy Police Chief Michael Mendoza said. “We can’t give any information on the type of injuries, but preliminary information from attendants at the scene was that there was trauma to her body.”

The driver was treated at the location and released. The identities of both individuals are being withheld by police until further notice.
