Hidalgo County COVID cases jump to 248

Hidalgo County reported one COVID-19 related death and 248 positive cases of the virus Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s reported death was that of a McAllen woman over the age of 70, raising the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,923.

The county’s 248 additional positive cases include 121 confirmed, 122 probable and five suspected. There have been a total of 94,617 positive cases in the county, including 61,600 confirmed cases, 30,775 probable cases and 2,242 suspect cases.

As of Wednesday morning, there are 88 people in county hospitals with the virus, and there are 31 people in intensive care units.

The county also reported that 148 people were released from isolation Wednesday, raising that total to 90,968. There are 726 net active cases in the county.

Hidalgo County has administered a total of 545,490 COVID-19 tests, and 450,086 had negative results.

Cameron County confirmed 76 additional cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The 76 cases include 26 from ​​unaccompanied minor shelters and detention centers in Brownsville and Los Fresnos. Wednesday’s new cases raise the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cameron County to 42,988.

The county also reported that an additional 67 people recovered from the virus, raising that total to 40,283.

There were no reported COVID-19 related deaths in Cameron County as of Wednesday evening.

Also as of Wednesday, 66.46% of county residents ages 12 years and older have been fully vaccinated, and 77.69% have received at least one dose. The county also reported that 81.26% of its residents ages 65 years and older have been fully vaccinated, and 89.17% have received at least one dose.
