A number of neighborhoods throughout Cameron County are underwater today following overnight storms.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville says a flash flood watch will continue through Friday night for for Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, Starr, Brooks, Kenedy, Jim Hogg and Zapata counties.

Forecasters say thunderstorms are producing heavy rainfall, with an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain expected in the Valley.

Overnight storms south of San Benito left portions of FM 1577 underwater. Area residents say the road is filled with potholes, making the driving even more dangerous.

In San Benito, the Resaca Vista neighborhood was also underwater Friday morning. Fortunately the homes are high enough the water did not get inside.

On Wild Rose Lane in Brownsville, the street is impassable.

There are also reports of widespreading flooding in Los Fresnos and South Padre Island.

The NWS has also issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for parts of Cameron County.

Some areas experiencing flooding include South Padre Island, Arroyo City, Holly Beach, Laguna Vista, Pharr, Beach Access 4, 5 and 6, Laguna Heights, Port Isabel and Boca Chica Beach.
