Driscoll to announce new RGV pediatric hospital on DHR campus

Driscoll Children’s Health is expected to announce a freestanding pediatric hospital in the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday in partnership with DHR Health.

The hospital will be an eight-level facility that will be located on the DHR Health campus, “making it the only designated, freestanding children’s hospital in the Rio Grande Valley,” according to a job posting published on the Driscoll employment portal.

“Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley will further the mission of Driscoll Children’s Hospital founder Clara Driscoll to provide medical care to all the children of South Texas,” the post stated.

On Wednesday, officials with Driscoll Children’s Hospital issued an advisory stating they would be holding a news conference Thursday afternoon to announce a “major development to benefit the children of South Texas” but did not provide additional details on what that development could be.

However, the job posting makes clear Driscoll’s intention for their freestanding hospital.

In their posting, Driscoll also encouraged DHR Health pediatric employees to apply for job opportunities at the new facility, opportunities which were “dedicated exclusively for DHR employees.”
